Tidying Up the Bedroom

Your bedroom is a sacred space. It should be a room that brings you peace and calm after a long day of work. With the pandemic this year it’s been harder than ever to separate work and home as we’ve had to be creative and merge our spaces. Taking back your bedroom as a happy place and working a little extra to make it beautiful could be the difference between a haven and a regular old room. Organizing your space is a form of self-care that we should be practicing during these trying times.

Tidy Up

A great place to start is at the beginning. Before you start pulling everything out of cabinets and donating your items, take a minute to tidy; make your bed, fold that pile of clothes, put away those seasonal shoes. Start small and then reassess your belongings after. Those extra minutes spent cleaning up the room will make an enormous improvement already. Put on a five-minute YouTube video or set a timer on your phone and clean only until its finished. You won’t miss those five minutes and your space will thank you.

Hang Artwork

Surfaces in the bedroom are prime real estate for necessary items. Wasting space with a piece of art or a family photo isn’t worth the hassle. Make time to hang your framed pieces that way they are not taking up important space on your dresser or nightstand. It will also make the room look more professional and showcase the things you love.

Under-Bed Storage

Taking advantage of space underneath your bed is a very smart idea. Whether its seasonal décor, clothing, or nostalgic items, the space under there is begging to be used. Special bins can be purchased to fit underneath a bed neatly. With bins, there is better protection for your items, and you can easily slide them out for use. This could be a great solution for seasonal items that take up space during the summer or winter months. Looking at your winter coat in the month of august is unnecessary when you have proper storage.

Declutter Décor

When you are looking to declutter your space a good first place is your décor. Whether it’s a dusty candle, outdated frame, overwhelming piles of  books, or anything is between, reassess what items bring you joy to look at. Simplifying your eyeline in the bedroom can make the space seem larger and cleaner. Edit the tchotchkes and nostalgic items and ask yourself what purpose they are serving you.
