Quick tips for organizing your dresser

less is always more

Applying the KonMari method in my home, I found that not only my dresser but also my family’s dressers became tidier and less cluttered.

Here’s a quick guide as to how you can implement this method in your home, and make dressing in the morning a more pleasant experience!

Tip 01: Tackle each piece of clothing, one by one...

Take all of your clothes and put them in a pile and begin taking all your items in hand, one by one, deciding whether or not that article of clothing brings you joy. If it does, great! If it doesn’t, thank the item for its presence in your life and put it in a pile to be donated or discarded. You want to get rid of any clothes that you don’t wear or need.

Tip 02: Use the "file-folding method"...

After you’ve sifted through your wardrobe, it’s time to find a place to put everything. As you arrange the clothes in your drawers, arrange them in a “file-folding method.” You want all of your clothing to be visible, so that all of the items that spark joy in you are never lost in the shuffle. This visibility will also prevent you from buying more duplicate clothing, because you will never forget that you own something/not be able to find what you are looking for.

Tip 03: Don't stuff your clothes...

Don’t stuff clothes into drawers to make everything fit. This only harms you in the long run as one day you will be too lazy to put in the extra effort to keep it as tidy as you make it now. This brings me to my next point…

Tip 04: Be flexible...

Don’t get attached to your first organizational plan. Maybe you thought your medium sized drawer was large enough to fit your t-shirts, and you were wrong. That’s ok! Don’t sacrifice the tidiness of that one drawer for the sake of sticking to a plan you have in your head. Revise the plan! Move the t-shirts into a bigger drawer, and change the plan accordingly. Everything should have its own place.  Remember organizing is a journey, not a destination.

Tip 05: Maintain tidiness...

Maintain the tidiness as much as possible. Sometimes things slip through the cracks, but every once in a while, it’s good to take a few minutes and focus on putting misplaced items back in their rightful homes. It’ll give you peace of mind, and it’s more conducive to a productive lifestyle!
