Places to Get Organized Besides the Home

Organization is first and foremost a mindset. Practicing a minimalistic lifestyle allows other areas in your life to shine as they are no longer dragged down by disorder. While most decluttering content is focused on the home (which is a great place to start!), there are so many other functioning areas of your life that could use some simplification. These sections of your life will not only physically organize it, but the newly tidied areas will clear out any occupied mental space for positive thinking.

The Car

Whether you are used to a long or short commute most working professionals spend at least part of their day in the car. It’s a daily necessity. Because the act of driving is a means to an end, we often don’t think of it as a place to respect. If you have a daily commute, treating your car like your organized home will transform the experience. Getting rid of those old to-go cups or papers sitting in the back will give you one less thing to think about. Put on your favorite podcast , or playlist and reclaim that lost time in your day for something you enjoy in a space that is clean.

The Calendar

This is a great tip for those who worry about the future. Sit down and write out as many details as you can about the next year. Write out everything you can think of, things such as work engagements, personal plans, doctors’ appointments, and time off. If everything is clearly labeled in one place whether its digital or on-paper it will alleviate some of that worry. Once the year is sketched out, it will allow you to plan activities that you can truly look forward to.

The Email Account

Everyone nowadays has their work, school and personal email linked up on their phone. This can create a disastrous headache of endless promotional emails. With so many addresses to choose from we often get bombarded with dozens of advertisements in our inbox. When the number of those emails climb higher, it becomes harder to find the messages we actually have an account for. When you are on a desktop computer the account automatically sorts the different categories of mail, making mass deletion much simpler. Then take some time to unsubscribe from unnecessary emails. This will clear out your inbox in the long run and allow you to focus on what is truly important.

The To-Do List

While having a yearly calendar is a great place to start, your weekly schedule deserves some attention as well. Something as simple as a to-do list, will help you achieve practical goals regularly. Having all your tasks in one place will alleviate the stress of any forgotten items. Once you’ve completed one cross it off the list! That will be a great feeling.

I hope this article broadened your scope of organization. So many small pockets of our life can have a deep impact on our daily mindset. Tidying up your life will take time and showing compassion to yourself is a must in this process. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is your new tidy lifestyle.
