Functional Areas to Get Organized

Through the day to day hustle and bustle of our lives, clutter can start to pile up. Often the places we need organization the most have to function for us on the daily. So those places seem to get junked up the fastest! These five functional areas of your life need organization. Hopefully, this article will remind you to not neglect these everyday spaces. This way your routine runs smoothly so you can focus on what really matters.

Computer Desktop

Everyone has little messes that seem ignorable. Shutting off your computer every night easily compartmentalizes that junked up desktop. Start by deleting duplicate files and work your way towards a tidy screen. Deleting programs from your desktop that you don’t use will free up functional space.

Nightstand Drawer

The little drawer on your nightstand is so convenient and shuts away the mess. However, when you are looking for a Chapstick or a pen in the middle of the night (for those great ideas) the clutter will muddle that process. Think of clearing out this drawer as a small gift to yourself!

Work Bag or Backpack

As the weeks go by make sure you are checking in on your everyday bags. Whether you need it for work or school a clean bag will allow you grab what you need and focus on the real work. It will also help you to clearly plan for the week ahead. Without all that clutter you might just notice your running low on pencils or paper!

Sock Drawer

The sock drawer is a forgotten black hole of the dresser. Most of the time socks get lost in the shuffle. So, when you are looking for your running socks but all you can find are your fuzzy Christmas socks it might be time for a clean out.

“Catch-all” Area
(coats, umbrellas, shoes)

Whether you have a full laundry room or a corner in your apartment, the “catch-all” area is a mess waiting to happen. Taking time to remove seasonal shoes and jackets will streamline the area. Also, if you have umbrellas or raingear stored in this spot make sure it is located where you can find it. Once you place seasonal items away, use the Kon Mari method to pass on items that no longer spark joy. Soon your “catch-all” area will function the way it is supposed to when you’re rushing out the door.
I hope these functional areas gave you some inspiration. Cleaning out a nightstand or a sock drawer can be a ten-minute activity to boost your productivity! In such a crazy world it is nice to take control of your own life in small ways. Have a productive week!
