5 Things in Your Home (Right Now ) That are Causing Stress

Our homes should be our ultimate happy place’s but when the weight of work and life pile up home organization can be the first thing to go.

When life speeds up we accumulate papers, let the dusting slip and clothes pile up on that chair (you know which one).

Tackling organization is always good for reducing your stress. However sometimes sneaky little things hide in our eyeline but still cause us underlying stress.

1. The Deep Clean

Doing some tidying here and there when you have time is always great. However, making time to deep clean your space will reduce your stress. Dusting small corners, wiping surfaces, changing sheets, cleaning mirrors etc. will reduce that underlying anxious feeling. Having everything that isn’t obviously dirty cleaned is just as important as cleaning dirty dishes or making your bed.

2. Unfinished Tasks

Whether you have unsigned paperwork, bills, bags of donations or school projects having unfinished tasks out in the open will cause distress. Many of us rationalize this habit by saying that “it will remind us to do it later” but your actually just adding stress. Especially if its not a pressing project its best to find a spot to put it out of your eyeline.

3. Minimize Décor

Surprisingly too much décor in our home disrupts our peaceful vibes. When you eye has too much to look at it adds to the clutter in your head. Minimalists often purge the items they don’t need and display sentimental items strategically. I urge you not to give away family portraits,  heirloom tchotchkes or you children’s art but find a way to highlight it thoughtfully.

4. Cramped Spaces

Even if you live in a 500 square foot apartment try not to cramp it up. Notice the furniture and appliances you use on the daily to access what’s necessary. Maybe your furniture doesn’t fit in the space or the windows are covered up by heavy curtains. Focus on the elements of your space that can open it up.

5. Broken Appliances

Holding onto broken appliances or gadgets is almost always a useless feat. At some point most of us replace the object instead of getting fixed. If you are going to fix it don’t procrastinate because the item will just take up space without functioning in your life.

I hope this article opened up you’re understanding about organizing tactics. When we are living in our spaces its hard to pinpoint exactly what isn’t working but when we do we gain that control back.
