COVID-19 Organizing

Covid-19 has turned our world upside down.

Covid-19 has turned our world upside down. Now that most people are staying home, it is the perfect time to organize and regroup. Maybe it took sitting in your home office everyday to realize all the old papers, pens, and Tchotchkes you have lying around. Whether it’s your desk, closet, bathroom or even the whole house, the biggest question is: where is it going to go?

While this is not a simple question to answer, Avance Organizing is here to help! This list will provide some creative ways to declutter during the pandemic.

Local Thrift Stores and Donation Centers

At the moment 94% of Goodwill stores are closed and Salvation Army has stopped accepting donations. However, Goodwill still suggests checking your specific locations status. Also, a great way to donate could be right in your community. Search your zip code online for local charities or organizations that might be collecting donations. In the meantime keep up with Goodwill  and Salvation Army  as they could be reopening in the future.

De-clutter

Even though most traditional donation collectors have closed their doors for the time being, don’t let it discourage your organizing plans. Gather your donations and set them aside. You will still feel relief when your decluttering project is on a roll. When organizations open back up you will have already done the heavy lifting!

Sell Your Belongings Online

This could be a great option if you are looking for a new project to start, or a simple way to earn some cash. Platforms like Posh mark, Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, eBay, etc. make it easy to showcase your possessions online. Each site takes a small commission however, the access to customers makes it worth it!

Online Thrift and Consignment

Websites like Thredup and The Real Real are still accepting mail-in items. Thredup is experiencing delays but they will send you an at-home “donation clean up kit”. On top of that they donate $5 to a charity of your choice for each bag. The Real Real has moved consignment sales to online consultations. This way if you are interested in consigning you won’t have to leave the comfort of your home. Once you have your virtual meeting, they will arrange a complimentary USPS pickup.

I hope this will be a good start for your organizing journey. Don’t forget to take care of yourself and your home during this stressful time.  Organizing can help you find the things in your house that spark the most joy! We hope everyone is staying healthy and safe.
