6 Common Hosting Mistakes that are Easy to Avoid

for the holiday season

Party hosting season is upon us! Whether you are hosting a small dinner or a holiday party these tips can help you avoid common hosting mistakes. Making preemptive efforts will ensure your gusts feel comfortable and that you also get to have some fun. Simple switches can make the largest difference between a great night and one that causes more stress than necessary. Here are six mistakes to avoid when hosting a party:

1. Not Making Enough Food

Food waste and sustainable practices are always best, but when hosting a party its okay to purchase a little more food than you think you need. There is nothing worse than underpreparing and then having to scrounge together food for your hungry guests. If you are worried about wasting food, you can always send your guests home with leftovers!

2. Putting the Food in an Awkward Place

Here is a scenario: you are getting ready for your party, and you have laid out the food on your kitchen counters. Now twenty minutes in people are still standing in the kitchen. While this isn’t exactly a dire situation, its best to have your food in the “party area” before anyone arrives to avoid any awkward standing.

3. Forgetting to Have Fun

This is a common occurrence for people who are very focused on their guests having a good time. At a certain point in the night, you have done enough and its just time to enjoy. A party is supposed to be relaxing and fun; and that includes the host.

4. Forgetting to Plan Music

This is such an easy step but its often forgotten! Finding a playlist that suits your party is an essential piece to craft ambiance.  Its best to pick a playlist or radio that does not have to supervised.

5. Not Tidying Before Hand

In the week leading up to your party you should start to think about tidying up. The worst feeling is scrambling home after work to quickly clean up your entire home. Even completing small sections throughout the week will lighten your load when its party time.

6. Making a Brand-New Recipe

For a party that includes a menu its always best to go for dishes that are tried and true. While you might have a passion for new recipes, there is no need for any added pressure.

I hope these tips were helpful for your next get together! After 2020 the holidays this year should be a time for us all to come together again, and there is no need for any added stress. Planning can help you focus on the people who spark joy.
